Nargis Fakhri’s Sister Aliya Charged with Murder in US; Accused of Fatal Arson

Aliya Fakhri, the sister of Bollywood actress Nargis Fakhri, has been indicted on multiple murder charges in the United States after allegedly setting fire to her ex-boyfriend’s home, resulting in the deaths of two people. The tragic incident occurred in Queens, New York, on November 23, when Fakhri, 43, reportedly resorted to arson after Edward Jacobs, 35, rejected her attempts at reconciliation.
Prosecutors claim that Fakhri arrived at the property early in the morning and was overheard shouting, “You’re all going to die today,” before setting fire to the detached garage. The blaze claimed the lives of Jacobs and his friend, Anastasia Ettienne, 33. According to officials, Ettienne tried to save Jacobs, who was asleep inside, but both succumbed to smoke inhalation and severe burns.
The Queens District Attorney, Melinda Katz, condemned the act, calling it a “malicious and devastating crime that ended the lives of two people.” Fakhri has been charged with multiple counts of first-degree and second-degree murder, as well as arson. She has pleaded not guilty and is being held at Rikers Island.
Jacobs’ mother revealed that he had ended his relationship with Fakhri over a year ago and had been trying to distance himself from her persistent attempts to reconnect. Meanwhile, Fakhri’s mother expressed disbelief, stating, “I don’t think she would be killing someone. She was a person who cared for everybody.”
Aliya Fakhri is scheduled to appear in court on December 9. If convicted of the most severe charges, she could face life imprisonment.
