N Ramchander Rao Takes Charge as Telangana BJP President

Senior advocate and former MLC N Ramchander Rao officially assumed office as the new president of the BJP’s Telangana unit on Saturday, taking over from G Kishan Reddy. The ceremony was held at the BJP state headquarters in Hyderabad in the presence of key leaders, including Union Minister Kishan Reddy and party MP D K Aruna.

Before assuming charge, Rao visited the Bhagyalakshmi temple at Charminar to offer prayers and later paid tribute at the Telangana Amaraveerula Stupam, a memorial for martyrs of the Telangana statehood movement.

Expressing gratitude to the party leadership and workers, Rao pledged to strengthen the BJP in Telangana and serve the people under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Responding to State Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar’s criticism that the BJP overlooked backward classes (BCs) by not appointing a BC leader, Rao countered that by such logic, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, an Other Caste (OC) leader, should resign in favor of a BC representative. He highlighted that PM Modi himself belongs to a backward class, and the BJP has 29 BC Union Ministers along with numerous BC MPs and MLAs across the country.

Shortly after assuming charge, Rao issued an open letter to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, urging the Congress government to fulfill its poll promises. These include:

  • ₹2,500 monthly assistance to poor women
  • One tola gold for brides under ‘Kalyana Lakshmi’ and ‘Shadi Mubarak’ schemes
  • Interest-free loans to Self-Help Group (SHG) members
  • Scooters for female college students
  • Increased social security pensions of ₹4,000 per month

Rao was elected as Telangana BJP President on July 1, marking a new chapter in the party’s leadership in the state.
