Missiles Rock Haifa as Oil Refinery Catches Fire Amid Fresh Strikes

Tensions in the Middle East intensified after an oil refinery in Haifa, one of the largest cities in Israel, caught fire following a new wave of missile alerts on Monday.

According to Israeli media reports, thick black smoke was seen rising from the refinery shortly after the military detected incoming missiles believed to have been launched from Iran. Television footage showed flames engulfing a large cylindrical fuel tank while emergency crews rushed to contain the blaze.

However, it remains unclear whether the refinery was directly struck by a missile or damaged by falling debris from air defence interceptions. The incident occurred in Haifa’s large industrial zone, a critical hub for the country’s energy infrastructure.

Images shared by Israel’s Fire and Rescue Services showed firefighters battling flames at the site, while search-and-rescue teams were quickly deployed to the affected area.

Journalists who reached the scene about an hour after the initial reports said the thick smoke had started to clear, though firefighters continued working to control the fire and prevent further damage.

In a brief statement, the Israeli military confirmed that rescue forces—both regular and reserve units—were heading to a location in northern Israel following reports of a missile impact. Officials did not immediately confirm the exact site.

This is not the first time the facility has been targeted. Israeli media said the same industrial area was also struck earlier this month when missiles were fired toward Israel during escalating hostilities in the region.

The latest strike underscores the growing risks to critical infrastructure as the confrontation between Israel and Iran continues to escalate.
