Massive Traffic Jam On Delhi-Kolkata Highway: Vehicles Stranded For 4 Days In Bihar

A massive traffic jam has brought the Delhi-Kolkata Highway (NH-19) to a standstill, with hundreds of vehicles stranded for the past four days in Bihar’s Rohtas district following torrential rains last Friday.

The heavy rainfall caused flooding across diversions and service lanes built by the six-lane construction company at several points along the highway, leading to severe waterlogging and potholes. As a result, vehicles are barely moving, and the congestion has now stretched up to Aurangabad, nearly 65 kilometres away from Rohtas.

Despite the situation worsening by the hour, no visible relief efforts have been made by the local administration, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), or the construction company responsible for maintaining the route.

Truck drivers and commuters stranded on the highway described the conditions as “miserable,” saying they have been stuck for days without food, water, or assistance.

“In the past 30 hours, we have travelled only seven kilometres. We pay tolls and taxes, yet no one is helping,” said Praveen Singh, a truck driver.
“We are hungry, thirsty, and exhausted,” added another driver, Sanjay Singh.

The prolonged jam has also disrupted supply chains, particularly for trucks carrying perishable goods, while ambulances and emergency services are struggling to move through the gridlock.

When questioned about the worsening situation, NHAI Project Director Ranjit Verma refused to appear on camera or provide details.

With no immediate intervention in sight, the stranded drivers and passengers remain trapped on the flooded highway, highlighting the poor infrastructure and lack of disaster response along one of India’s busiest national routes.
