Massive Fire Engulfs Over 100 Seized Vehicles at Delhi Police Yard

Authorities Investigate Possible Foul Play After Blaze Destroys Vehicles in Nehru Place

New Delhi: A massive fire broke out on Thursday afternoon at a Delhi Police vehicle yard in Nehru Place, reducing over 100 seized vehicles to ashes. The devastating blaze, which erupted around 2:02 PM, sent thick plumes of smoke across the area, alarming residents and passersby.

Firefighting Efforts and Damage Assessment

Initially, the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) reported that about 50 vehicles, including two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and cars, were affected. However, as cooling operations continued, police sources revised the number to over 100 vehicles destroyed in the fire.

Authorities rushed six fire tenders to the scene, and firefighters battled the flames for more than three hours before successfully containing the inferno. Unfortunately, some case properties stored in the yard were also destroyed.

Investigation Underway

Following the incident, an FIR was registered to investigate the cause of the fire and determine if foul play was involved. Officials from the Delhi Traffic Police Headquarters arrived at the site to assess the extent of the damage.

The yard primarily housed vehicles seized for traffic violations or accidents, many of which were awaiting legal proceedings. The intensity of the fire and the rapid spread of the flames have raised concerns about possible arson or safety lapses.

What Happens Next?

A senior police officer confirmed that no compensation will be provided for the burnt vehicles, except for any insurance claims that owners may be eligible for. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, and further investigations are ongoing.
