Mary Millben Hits Back At Rahul Gandhi Over PM Modi Remarks

US singer Mary Millben, known for her admiration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sharply criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after his comments suggesting that the PM is “frightened” of former US President Donald Trump.

A day earlier, Rahul Gandhi had posted on X that PM Modi lets Trump dictate decisions — including on Russian oil — and refuses to contradict him publicly. He also accused the PM of prioritising Trump despite repeated diplomatic snubs.

Responding on X, Millben dismissed Gandhi’s remarks, saying PM Modi’s engagement with the US is “strategic” and rooted in national interest. She wrote that, like any head of state, Modi — just like Trump — acts in the best interest of his own country.

Millben went further, attacking Gandhi personally. She said he lacks the “acumen” to be India’s Prime Minister and suggested he return to what she called his “‘I hate India’ tour,” claiming that only he is listening to himself.

Millben first met PM Modi during his US state visit in June 2023, where she sang the Indian national anthem at an event in Washington, DC, and touched his feet as a gesture of respect — an image that went viral globally.

Trump’s Claim And India’s Response

Earlier this week, Donald Trump claimed that PM Modi had assured him India would soon stop buying oil from Russia — and that his tariff moves against India were connected to that promise.

India has not acknowledged making any such commitment.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal responded by stressing that India’s oil import decisions are based solely on protecting domestic consumers and ensuring energy security. He also highlighted India’s ongoing efforts to diversify energy sources and deepen cooperation with the US.
