Maharashtra Politics: SIT to Probe Alleged Conspiracy Against Fadnavis & Shinde During MVA Rule

Was There a Plot to Frame Maharashtra’s Top Leaders? Investigation Ordered
Mumbai: In a major political development, the Maharashtra government has set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe allegations that the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, led by Uddhav Thackeray, conspired to falsely implicate Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy CM Eknath Shinde in criminal cases.
The move comes after BJP MLC Pravin Darekar claimed in the Maharashtra Legislative Council’s winter session in December 2024 that a plot was hatched to arrest Fadnavis and Shinde on fabricated charges. He also claimed to have audio recordings as evidence to support his allegations.
SIT Formed to Investigate the Allegations
According to an official government resolution (GR), the SIT will be led by Satyanarayan Chaudhary, Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Mumbai Police. The four-member team also includes:
Rajiv Jain – Deputy Inspector General, State Reserve Police Force
Navnath Dhavle – Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mumbai
Adikrao Pol – Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mumbai
The SIT has been directed to complete its investigation within 30 days.
Political Turmoil in Maharashtra
During the MVA rule (November 2019 – June 2022), Fadnavis served as the Leader of Opposition, while Shinde was a key cabinet minister. However, in June 2022, Shinde led a rebellion against Uddhav Thackeray, which ultimately resulted in the collapse of the MVA government. He then formed a new government with BJP’s support.
Now, with the Mahayuti alliance in power, this latest investigation is set to reignite political tensions in Maharashtra. The outcome of the SIT probe could have significant political repercussions in the state’s ever-evolving power dynamics.
