Maharashtra Politics: Growing Tensions Between Sena-BJP? Shinde’s Frustrations Surface

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has clarified that decisions on security cover are made by the Security Review Committee, which periodically reviews and determines the necessary security measures. However, tensions seem to be brewing within the Mahayuti alliance, as former Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is reportedly unhappy with the current political dynamics.

Shinde, who had initially rebelled against Uddhav Thackeray to align with the BJP, was reportedly discontent with not securing the Chief Minister’s post and eventually settled for the Deputy CM position. This discontent has lingered, surfacing on several occasions.

The latest flashpoint revolves around the Maharashtra government’s decision to withdraw or reduce the Y-category security cover for several MLAs, including those from Shiv Sena. This security cover had been granted to 44 MLAs and 11 Lok Sabha MPs who supported Shinde during his revolt. However, the protection has now been revoked for all non-ministerial MLAs, which has reportedly upset Shinde.

While Fadnavis emphasized that the Security Review Committee operates independently and without political influence, the decision has nonetheless sparked discontent. Additionally, Shinde’s frustrations are said to stem from not being appointed as the Raigad and Nashik guardian ministers. In a bid to address his concerns, Shinde was recently included in the State Disaster Management Authority, an adjustment made by modifying existing rules.

Despite these tensions, Maharashtra IT Minister and BJP leader Ashish Shelar dismissed rumors of discord, asserting that there are no differences or resentment within the Mahayuti alliance.

However, with Uddhav Thackeray’s camp questioning the unity of the Mahayuti parties, the political landscape in Maharashtra remains complex and dynamic.
