Maharashtra IPS Officer’s Husband Held In ₹7.4 Crore Fraud Case

Mumbai:
Purushottam Chavan, husband of senior IPS officer Rashmi Karandikar, was arrested by Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) on Wednesday for allegedly defrauding a Surat-based businessman and others of ₹7.42 crore.
According to police sources, Chavan allegedly took money on the pretext of selling plots from the ‘government quota’ at discounted prices. He is also accused of promising lucrative contracts for supplying T-shirts to the Maharashtra Police Academy.
Chavan was already in custody in connection with another cheating case and was formally taken into EOW’s custody on Wednesday evening.
Just last month, the EOW arrested him for allegedly swindling multiple individuals out of ₹24.78 crore by falsely offering government-allotted flats in Mumbai, Thane, and Pune at subsidized rates.
The investigation is ongoing to uncover more potential victims and accomplices in the real estate fraud network.
