LPG Carrier Nanda Devi Reaches Vadinar for Ship-to-Ship Transfer Operation

An Indian-flagged LPG vessel, Nanda Devi, arrived early Tuesday morning at Vadinar to begin a ship-to-ship gas transfer operation in open waters.

The vessel reached the anchorage area at around 2:30 a.m., carrying approximately 46,500 metric tonnes of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). It is currently stationed a few nautical miles away from the port, awaiting the start of operations.

According to Deendayal Port Authority Chairman Sushil Kumar Singh, preparations are already underway for the transfer. A second vessel, BW Birch, has also arrived at the location to assist in the process.

The operation involves placing both ships side-by-side in the anchorage area, using specialized equipment such as fenders to ensure safety during the transfer. These arrangements were scheduled to be completed by the afternoon, with the transfer expected to begin around 3 p.m.

This kind of ship-to-ship transfer, typically conducted in high seas, helps manage large volumes of cargo efficiently without requiring direct docking at the port.
