Kharge Issues Strong Warning to BJP Over Ambedkar Issue, Declares ‘War Has Begun’

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge launched a scathing attack on the BJP, defending his party’s respect for Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and accusing the BJP of hypocrisy. Addressing the Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan convention in Belagavi, Kharge fiercely refuted the BJP’s claims that Congress had insulted Ambedkar, calling it “impossible.” He reminded the audience that it was during the tenure of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi that Ambedkar’s statue was placed in front of Parliament, emphasizing that the current government had moved it to a less visible spot.

Kharge lashed out at the BJP, stating, “You (BJP) are the ones who have burned the Constitution and defaced photos of Ambedkar and Jawaharlal Nehru.” He warned the BJP, saying that if they continued to meddle with Congress, they would “burn and won’t survive,” describing Congress as a “fire” that would not be extinguished. He urged the BJP not to provoke Congress further, warning that their attempts to instigate division would not end well for them.

The Congress leader also accused the BJP of performing theatrics by bowing to copies of the Constitution while ignoring their own history, pointing out that the BJP and its allies had once burned copies of the Constitution and statues of Nehru. Kharge dismissed BJP’s accusations that Congress had defeated Ambedkar, reminding them that the Congress party had elected Ambedkar twice with unanimous support. He also questioned the BJP’s actions, stating, “What did the BJP do? They burned copies of the Constitution.”

Kharge went on to praise Rahul Gandhi for his “Samvidhan Bachao” movement and the “Bharat Jodo Yatra,” pointing out that the BJP had failed to make sacrifices for the country, despite the party’s participation in the independence struggle being questionable. He also referenced Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing them of insulting Ambedkar and demanding their resignation.

In a final rebuke, Kharge highlighted the destruction of government institutions under BJP rule and condemned the communal hatred being propagated by the BJP and RSS. He pointed to RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat’s call for the BJP to halt such actions, stressing that Congress is working towards unity and that all citizens should unite to ensure the party’s victory in the upcoming elections.
