Rewa, Madhya Pradesh: In a landmark verdict, a Madhya Pradesh court has sentenced eight men to life imprisonment till death for the brutal gangrape of a newly-married woman after abducting her and her husband during an outing in October 2024.
The Fourth Additional Sessions Judge, Padma Jatav, pronounced the judgment on Wednesday, ensuring that the convicts—Ramkishan, Garud Kori, Rakesh Gupta, Sushil Kori, Rajnish Kori, Deepak Kori, Rajendra Kori, and Lavkush Kori—will remain behind bars for the rest of their lives. Each convict has also been fined ₹2,30,000.
The Crime That Shook Rewa
The tragic incident occurred on October 21, 2024, when the young couple, aged 19 and 20, was returning home from a temple visit on a hill about 20 km from the district headquarters. The eight men kidnapped them, took them to an isolated area under the Gudh police station limits, and subjected the woman to unspeakable cruelty.
While six of the accused took turns raping the woman in front of her helpless husband, the other two assisted in committing the crime. The perpetrators were under the influence of alcohol, showing no remorse for their actions.
Justice Served
The court convicted the accused under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 70 (gangrape). Public prosecutor Vikas Dwivedi stated that after examining evidence, witness testimonies, and the severity of the crime, the court ruled that these men deserve to remain in prison for life.
This verdict brings some solace to the victim and her family, sending a strong message that such heinous crimes will not go unpunished.
