JSW Group MD Sajjan Jindal Accused of Rape by Actress; Police Launch Investigation Following Court Order

MUMBAI: A complaint has been filed against Sajjan Jindal, the managing director of the JSW Group, at the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) police station on Wednesday. An actress has accused him of rape, alleging that the incident took place in January 2022 at the penthouse located above the company’s head office in Mumbai.
The actress claimed that her initial attempts to file a complaint with the police earlier this year were ignored, prompting her to approach the court. Following a court directive, the police have now registered the complaint and begun an investigation.
According to the complainant, she first met Jindal in October 2021 in Dubai while watching an IPL match from the VIP box. They met again at a wedding in Jaipur, where she claims Jindal’s behavior became more personal and intrusive. She stated that after these encounters, he began addressing her with endearing terms like “babe” and “baby” and even confided in her about his marital issues, which left her feeling uncomfortable.
The actress said they kept in touch after exchanging numbers, and Jindal allegedly continued to express romantic interest, despite her reluctance. She claimed he tried to kiss her and pushed for physical intimacy, which she firmly rejected, saying such a relationship was only possible after marriage.
The actress alleged that during a meeting at JSW’s Mumbai headquarters in January 2022, Jindal took her to the penthouse, where he forced himself on her despite her repeated refusals. Following the incident, she tried to maintain a friendly relationship, but Jindal eventually stopped responding and blocked her in June 2022. She further claimed he threatened her with serious consequences if she went to the police.
The complainant stated that she filed a written complaint with the BKC police in February 2023 but received no response. After months of silence from the authorities, she sought the court’s intervention, leading to the current registration of the complaint.
An official from the BKC police confirmed that the case has been filed under Sections 376 (rape), 354 (assault with intent to outrage modesty), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. “We are currently investigating the allegations,” the official said.
JSW Group representatives have not yet responded to requests for comment on the matter.
