“Journalist Mukesh Chandrakar’s Murder Unveils Web of Family Feud, Corruption, and Political Intrigue in Chhattisgarh”
The shocking murder of 32-year-old journalist Mukesh Chandrakar in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district has unveiled a grim tale of family disputes, alleged corruption, and political connections. Mukesh’s body was discovered on Friday in a septic tank at a property linked to one of the accused, sparking outrage and demands for justice.
The Chhattisgarh police have arrested three individuals: brothers Ritesh and Dinesh Chandrakar, and construction supervisor Mahendra Ramteke. However, the main accused, Suresh Chandrakar, remains at large. According to investigators, Ritesh, Mukesh’s cousin, was enraged over Mukesh’s interference in their construction business. A heated argument allegedly led to the murder, with Suresh and others helping dispose of the body.
Days before his death, Mukesh had reported on substandard road construction work in the district, prompting a government inquiry. The expose is believed to have angered Suresh, who was one of the contractors involved in the project. The state’s Home Minister, Vijay Sharma, alleged that Suresh is a Congress leader, but the Congress countered, claiming he had joined the BJP.
In a bid to send a strong message against crime, Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai directed district authorities to demolish Suresh’s allegedly illegal construction yard, built on encroached forest land. Spread over three acres, the property housed vehicles, sheds, and a hot mix plant used for road construction. Officials have also frozen Suresh’s bank accounts and are investigating other properties linked to him.
Mukesh’s murder has drawn widespread condemnation. Anurag Dwary, Resident Editor at NDTV, described it as a harsh reminder of the dangers faced by journalists exposing the truth. “His sacrifice will not be in vain. We stand in solidarity with his family and demand swift justice,” Dwary stated.
The Chhattisgarh government has formed a Special Investigation Team and vowed to fast-track the case in court. Meanwhile, Mukesh’s death has become a rallying point for calls to ensure the safety of journalists and uphold the integrity of investigative reporting.
