Instagram Chats Expose Delhi Woman and Lover in Husband’s Murder Plot

What initially appeared to be an accidental electrocution has now been revealed as a carefully planned murder in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar, after chilling social media messages came to light. A woman and her lover—who also happened to be the victim’s cousin—have been arrested for killing 36-year-old Karan Dev.
Karan was declared dead on the morning of July 13 at a hospital in Janakpuri. His wife, Sushmita, told the family he had died from an accidental electric shock at home. The family initially declined a post-mortem, suspecting no foul play. However, police insisted on an autopsy due to Karan’s young age and the unusual circumstances surrounding his death.
The case took a dramatic turn on July 16 when Karan’s younger brother, Kunal Dev, uncovered a shocking Instagram conversation between Sushmita and Rahul, the victim’s paternal cousin. The messages detailed a premeditated plan to sedate and kill Karan.
According to the chats, Sushmita had mixed 15 sleeping pills into Karan’s food on the night of July 12. When the medication failed to work quickly, she messaged Rahul in a panic, saying, “It’s been three hours, no vomiting, no movement, and he’s still alive. What should we do?” Rahul replied, “If you can’t figure anything out, give him a shock.”
The chilling exchange continued as they discussed how to restrain Karan and how to force-feed him more pills. Sushmita wrote: “I can’t get his mouth open. Maybe if you come, we can manage together.”
Police say that when the sedatives didn’t have the desired effect, the duo attempted to simulate an electric accident by applying current to Karan’s finger while he was sedated, hoping to disguise the murder as a mishap.
After carrying out the act, Sushmita allegedly informed her in-laws that Karan had suffered a shock, prompting them to rush him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
At the time, Rahul and Karan’s father reportedly objected to an autopsy, but police insisted on following standard procedure.
The breakthrough came when Kunal recorded and submitted the incriminating Instagram chat to authorities. An FIR was lodged and, during police interrogation, both Sushmita and Rahul confessed to the crime.
Sources say Sushmita admitted to the murder during questioning, citing repeated abuse and financial demands from Karan—including an incident where he allegedly slapped her before Karwa Chauth—as motivation for the crime.
