IndiGo and Air India Cancel Flights to Bali After Volcanic Eruption Disrupts Air Travel

Bali: Air travel to and from Bali has been severely disrupted after a volcanic eruption on the Indonesian island, with several airlines, including IndiGo and Air India, cancelling flights. The eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki Laki has caused massive ash clouds, forcing airlines to suspend services as the clouds pose a serious risk to air travel.
IndiGo and Air India announced the cancellations on Wednesday, with both airlines confirming that flights to and from Bali have been affected due to the volcanic activity. “Due to the recent volcanic eruption in Bali, flights to/from the region have been cancelled, as ash clouds may impact air travel,” IndiGo shared on X (formerly Twitter).
Air India also stated that flights AI 2145 and AI 2146 from Delhi to Bali and back, scheduled for 13 November 2024, had been cancelled due to the unfavorable weather conditions caused by the eruption. The airline reassured passengers that efforts were being made to minimize the inconvenience, offering options for rescheduling, complimentary accommodation, or full refunds to affected customers.
As of Wednesday afternoon, at least 26 domestic and 64 international flights had been affected by the eruption. Bali’s international airport reported that the eruption, which saw a nine-kilometer ash tower spewed into the sky, has impacted more than 16 international routes.
Bali airport authorities have stated that airlines are offering affected passengers options for refunds, rescheduling, or re-routing their flights. Passengers are advised to check with their airlines for updates on alternative arrangements. The eruption has left many travelers stranded, with the situation continuing to evolve as ash clouds remain a significant threat to air travel.
