India Clinches Historic Test Victory at Edgbaston Amid On-Field Disagreement Between Shubman Gill and Jadeja

India made history by securing their first-ever Test win at Edgbaston, but not without a minor on-field disagreement between skipper Shubman Gill and senior all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. A video from Day 5 of the match has gone viral, showing Gill suggesting a field change that Jadeja firmly declined.
During a crucial 70-run partnership between England captain Ben Stokes and Jamie Smith, Gill was heard telling Jadeja:
“Jaddu bhai, usko bhi upar lelo yaar. Maarne do ek aage badhke”
(“Bring him up too. Let him try to step out and hit.”)
Jadeja responded, “Usko udhar kuch kaam nahi hai… Khada toh udhar bhi kardo, but pakadne wala toh chahiye,”
(“He’s useless there. Sure, you can place him there, but someone needs to be ready to catch.”)
With Jadeja standing his ground, Gill returned to his slip position, appearing helpless as the senior player insisted on keeping the field as it was.
Despite the brief disagreement, India went on to dominate the match. Shubman Gill led from the front, scoring a mammoth 269 in the first innings and following it up with 161 in the second—earning praise for his leadership and batting brilliance. Fast bowler Akash Deep was another standout, claiming 10 wickets in the match and playing a vital role in dismantling England’s batting line-up.
Speaking after the win, Gill told JioHotstar:
“I’m thrilled with the win. Runs matter only when the team wins. This being my first win as Test captain makes it extra special—especially at a venue where India had never won before. We weren’t worried after losing the first Test. We stayed focused and knew posting 400–450 consistently would give our bowlers a chance.”
He also praised his pace attack:
“With Bumrah absent, the other pacers really stepped up. When your fast bowlers take 16-17 wickets, it becomes so much easier as a captain. Our bowlers proved they can take 20 wickets in any conditions.”
India’s emphatic win not only leveled the series but also showcased the team’s depth, character, and resilience.
