IAS Officer Madhu Rani Teotia Appointed Secretary to Delhi CM Rekha Gupta

Senior IAS officer Madhu Rani Teotia has been appointed as the Secretary to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The announcement was made through an official order issued by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena late in the evening. Ms. Teotia, a 2008 batch officer, brings a wealth of experience, having previously served as Additional Chief Executive Officer at the National Health Authority under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

A Journey of Resilience and Service

Born in 1981 and raised in Delhi, Ms. Teotia’s appointment is being seen as a strategic decision by the Chief Minister, as selecting a secretary is traditionally the CM’s prerogative. Before joining the civil services, she practiced as a homeopathic doctor and later pursued a management degree before becoming an IAS officer in 2008.

Her name came into the public eye following the tragic murder of her husband, IPS officer Narendra Singh, in 2012. Mr. Singh, known for his crackdown on illegal mining, was brutally killed in Morena, Madhya Pradesh, when a member of the mining mafia ran him over with a tractor-trolley. At the time, Ms. Teotia was pregnant and gave birth to their child just days after his death. She had demanded a CBI inquiry into the case, and later, the Central government allowed her to transfer from the MP cadre to the AGMUT cadre as a special consideration.

Other Key Appointments in Delhi Government

Along with Ms. Teotia’s appointment, two 2011-batch IAS officers, Sandeep Kumar Singh and Ravi Jha, have been assigned as Special Secretaries to the Chief Minister.

Ravi Jha is currently serving as the Excise Commissioner of Delhi.

Sandeep Kumar Singh, who had been working as the Private Secretary to the Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, will now join the Delhi government.

Additionally, new postings were announced for other senior officers:

Azimul Haque (2007 batch IAS officer) has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the Delhi Waqf Board.

Sachin Rana (2014 batch IAS officer) has been given the additional charge of Member (Administration) in the Delhi Jal Board.

Both officers have prior experience in their respective roles, ensuring continuity in administration.

Ms. Teotia’s appointment marks a new chapter in her distinguished career, reflecting her resilience and dedication to public service.
