“I Choose Love”: UP Woman Elopes With Daughter’s Fiance, Says She’ll Marry Him

In a story that has stunned residents of Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, a woman named Sapna made headlines after she eloped with her own daughter’s fiancé just ten days before the wedding. Now back in town, she has surrendered to the police and spoken out about why she took such a drastic step.

Sapna, visibly firm in her decision, declared at the police station, “I will live with Rahul, whatever happens. I will marry him.”

The dramatic twist unfolded when she ran away with Rahul Kumar — the man her daughter, Shivani, was about to marry. Both Sapna and Rahul disappeared on April 6, leaving their families in shock. Now, days later, they’ve turned themselves in and shared their side of the story.

Sapna said she had been suffering in silence for years — allegedly facing abuse from her husband and frequent arguments with her daughter. “No one ever asked me how I felt. My husband used to drink and beat me. My daughter also kept fighting with me,” she told police. “So I left with Rahul. I didn’t steal anything — just took my phone and 200 rupees.”

Her daughter, however, accused her of taking away Rs 3.5 lakh in cash and jewellery worth over Rs 5 lakh. Sapna denied these claims.

Rahul also spoke to reporters. While his words showed hesitation, he admitted to going along because Sapna threatened self-harm. “She said she’d die if I didn’t meet her at the bus stop. So I went. We first went to Lucknow and then to Muzaffarpur,” he explained.

When asked if he truly planned to marry Sapna, his reply was vague: “There’s nothing like that… Will do,” he said after a pause.

Back home, emotions are running high. Sapna’s family wants nothing more to do with her. Her brother-in-law Dinesh made it clear: “She’s not welcome anymore. We just want back what she took. Action should be taken against her.”

He also denied any abuse in the household: “I stayed at their home for months at a time. I never saw my brother-in-law raise a hand on her.”

As for the police, they have remained tight-lipped about the case so far.

In a story filled with betrayal, heartbreak, and difficult choices, Sapna’s decision has divided opinion — raising questions about family, freedom, and the unpredictable nature of love.
