Heartbroken Meerut Mother Forced to Send Her Children Back to Pakistan Amid Visa Crackdown

In a deeply emotional and heartbreaking turn of events, Sana, a young mother from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, was forced to part with her two small children — a three-year-old son and a one-year-old daughter — at the Attari border on Monday. The children, both Pakistani citizens, were handed over to their father as per government orders following the cancellation of Short-Term Visas for Pakistani nationals in India.

Sana, who married Bilal, a doctor from Karachi, in 2020, broke down in tears after being compelled to send her children away. “I ask the government, why are mothers being separated from their children? What is my fault?” she cried, unable to contain her grief.

Her family members, who were with her during this painful moment, said she was inconsolable. Sana had entered India on a 45-day visa and has been living here since, but her request for Pakistani citizenship remains pending — a process she says could take another four years. Meanwhile, her children held Pakistani passports, and she was told she could no longer keep them in India.

The move follows the central government’s strict directive to repatriate Pakistani nationals staying on Short-Term Visas in the aftermath of the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 civilians lost their lives on April 22. Authorities have since begun enforcing these orders, separating many families in the process.

Inspector Pratap Singh of Saradha police station confirmed, “We informed Sana two days ago that, according to government orders, she must return the children to Pakistan. She has now completed the legal formalities at the border.”

As this heart-wrenching story unfolds, it highlights the silent suffering of families torn apart by geopolitical tensions — where innocent children and grieving mothers bear the brunt of broader national decisions.
