Gurugram Man Duped of ₹8,000 in Tyre Puncture Scam Here’s What Happened

A man from Gurugram has shed light on a tyre puncture scam he encountered at a petrol pump. Pranay Kapoor took to Instagram to share his experience, warning others about fraudulent practices at some petrol station tyre shops.

In his video titled “Got Scammed at a Petrol Pump Tyre Shop,” Kapoor explained that while driving, a flat tyre warning appeared on his dashboard. He drove to the nearest fuel station, where an attendant confirmed the flat and began inspecting the tyre.

The worker sprayed soapy water over the tyre to check for leaks, then removed a visible screw. He claimed there were four separate punctures and said each would require a “mushroom patch” repair, costing ₹300 per puncture – a total of ₹1,200.

Instead of agreeing to the repair, Kapoor took the car to a professional tyre shop. There, the technician revealed that only one puncture was legitimate, while the others appeared to have been intentionally made. The scammer had likely used a thorn-like tool to create fake punctures during the inspection.

Ultimately, Kapoor had to replace the entire tyre, costing him ₹8,000. In his video, he urged others to stay cautious and share his story to spread awareness.

Social media users reacted strongly, with many recounting similar experiences. Some admitted they had also fallen victim to the same tactic multiple times, while others expressed gratitude for the warning.
