Gold, Silver, and 17 Tonnes of Honey: Retired Engineer’s Astonishing Wealth Stash Uncovered in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal woke up to a real-life crime thriller on Thursday as the anti-corruption watchdog, Lokayukta, raided the homes and properties of retired PWD Chief Engineer GP Mehra, uncovering a staggering hoard of wealth that seems straight out of a movie.
What began as a routine probe into disproportionate assets quickly escalated into one of Madhya Pradesh’s most sensational corruption cases in recent years—an eye-popping mix of greed, luxury, and sheer absurdity.
At Mehra’s primary residence in Manipuram Colony, officials found Rs 8.79 lakh in cash, jewellery worth nearly Rs 50 lakh, and fixed deposits valued at Rs 56 lakh. The second property, a luxury apartment in Opal Regency near Dana Pani, revealed Rs 26 lakh in cash, 2.6 kilograms of gold worth over Rs 3 crore, and 5.5 kilograms of silver.
Yet the biggest shock awaited at his farmhouse in Saini village, Sohagpur (Narmadapuram). Here, investigators found a surreal collection of assets: 17 tonnes of honey, six tractors, 32 cottages under construction, seven completed cottages, a private pond for fish farming, a cowshed, a temple, and luxury cars including a Ford Endeavour, Skoda Slavia, Kia Sonet, and Maruti Ciaz—all registered under the Mehra family’s name.
The operation also extended to KT Industries in Govindpura Industrial Area, reportedly a business front for Mehra, where officials seized equipment, raw materials, Rs 1.25 lakh in cash, and documents linking his relatives as partners.
By the end of the day, the haul looked like a king’s inventory: Rs 36.04 lakh in cash, 2.649 kg of gold, 5.523 kg of silver, multiple fixed deposits, insurance policies, shares, numerous properties, and four luxury cars. Lokayukta officials said asset valuation is still ongoing and could run into several crores.
Forensic teams have now begun scrutinizing the seized documents, digital files, and banking records, while investigators trace Mehra’s financial trail to uncover potential benami investments.
