From Travel Vlogs to Espionage: How a Haryana YouTuber Was Allegedly Groomed by Pakistani Spies

Jyoti Malhotra, a 33-year-old travel vlogger from Haryana with 3.85 lakh YouTube subscribers, has found herself at the center of a serious espionage case. Known for her videos on international travel and personal experiences under the handle Travel With Jo, Jyoti’s transformation from content creator to suspected spy has revealed a troubling new dimension to digital influence and international manipulation.
The Allure of Influence—and Luxury
Like many post-pandemic creators, Jyoti was part of the increasingly competitive influencer world, where creators constantly chase content, connections, and credibility. Her channel showcased travel vlogs across eight countries, including China and Pakistan, where she described herself as a “Nomadic Leo Girl” and “modern woman with old-school ideas.”
But behind the scenes, police say, she was being cultivated by Pakistani information officers to push cross-border narratives. Haryana police claim that Jyoti was being “developed as an asset” by these officials, even if she didn’t initially have access to sensitive defence information.
The First Contact
Her alleged recruitment began through Danish, a Pakistani officer posted at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi. The connection reportedly intensified during the days following India’s military response to the Pahalgam terror attack through Operation Sindoor. Authorities say her continued contact with Pakistani officials and multiple visits to Pakistan raised red flags.
Police have seized her devices and are analyzing them for possible data leaks and communication trails.
A Life of Luxury and Red Flags
According to police, Jyoti’s travels to Pakistan were sponsored. She was given a 10-day visa and introduced to Pakistani intelligence officials during parties arranged by her contact, Ali Ahwan. To hide her connections, she saved sensitive contacts under aliases—like “Jat Randhawa”—and used encrypted apps like WhatsApp, Snapchat, and Telegram for communication.
Investigators are also examining financial records showing spending that far exceeded her known income. Jyoti reportedly flew first class, stayed in high-end hotels, and dined luxuriously. A similar pattern was seen during her recent trip to China.
Possible Network Beyond Jyoti
Authorities believe Jyoti might not be the only Indian influencer cultivated by Pakistani officials. Leads have led them to Odisha, where police are now investigating a Puri-based YouTuber who once met Jyoti. That YouTuber, Priyanka Senapati, insists she had no idea of Jyoti’s alleged espionage and describes her merely as a YouTube acquaintance.
Haryana police and central agencies are now coordinating with other state forces to track this possible network.
A Father’s Defense
Jyoti’s father, Haris Malhotra, has denied any wrongdoing on her part, saying she traveled with all necessary permissions to shoot videos. “If she had friends in Pakistan, can’t she talk to them?” he asked, calling for the return of their seized phones.
The Road Ahead
Jyoti has been charged under the Official Secrets Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. As the investigation deepens—with forensic analysis of her devices, scrutiny of her finances, and possible interrogation of associates—her case highlights a new-age battlefield: digital influence manipulated by foreign intelligence.
This unfolding story underscores how even seemingly harmless content creators can become unwitting players in high-stakes global affairs, all for the lure of luxury, attention, and influence.
