Five Injured After Explosion Tears Through Upstate New York Church

A powerful explosion rocked the Abundant Life Fellowship Church in upstate New York on Tuesday morning, injuring five people, including a firefighter who suffered serious burns while responding to the scene.

The blast occurred around 10:30 a.m. in a rural area roughly 50 miles northeast of Syracuse. Authorities said emergency crews had initially been called to the church following reports of a gas odor inside the building before the explosion took place.

Injuries and Response

Five individuals were transported to a nearby hospital. Two remain in critical condition, including the firefighter who was among the first responders. The other three victims sustained injuries that officials described as non-life-threatening.

Thick plumes of black smoke were seen rising into the sky as flames engulfed portions of the structure, leaving the church severely damaged.

Investigation Underway

The New York State Police are investigating the cause of the explosion. Authorities said there is no initial indication of criminal activity.

Preliminary information suggests the church was heated using propane cylinders, which investigators are examining as a possible factor in the blast.

Officials continue to assess the structural damage and determine the exact cause of the explosion as the community grapples with the aftermath of the incident.
