Ektaa Kapoor Clarifies Non-Association With ALTT After OTT Ban Over Vulgar Content

New Delhi:
Following the government’s decision to block 25 OTT platforms, including ALTT, over streaming “obscene and vulgar content,” Ektaa Kapoor has issued a public statement distancing herself and her mother, Shobha Kapoor, from any connection with the platform.
Ektaa clarified on X (formerly Twitter) that neither she nor Shobha Kapoor has been associated with ALTT since June 2021. She emphasized that any suggestions implying otherwise are baseless and incorrect.
The statement read:
“Balaji Telefilms Limited, which is listed on BSE and NSE, is a professionally managed media company. Following the recent amalgamation of ALT Digital Media Entertainment Ltd. (previously its wholly owned subsidiary) as approved by the Hon’ble NCLT, ALTT is operated under Balaji Telefilms as of June 20, 2025.”
It further added, “While there have been reports of ALTT being taken down by the authorities, Ms. Ektaa Kapoor and Mrs. Shobha Kapoor are not connected to ALTT in any capacity. They had officially ended their association with the platform back in June 2021.”
The statement concluded by affirming that Balaji Telefilms adheres strictly to all relevant legal frameworks and maintains high standards of corporate governance.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, after consultation with various other government departments and legal experts, ordered the ban on 25 OTT apps — including ALTT, ULLU, Desiflix, Boomex, and others — for allegedly violating laws under the Information Technology Act, 2000, and IT Rules, 2021. These platforms were found to be streaming inappropriate and explicit content, leading to the action. Notifications have been issued to digital intermediaries to block access to the listed apps and websites.
