Eknath Shinde Defers Maharashtra CM Decision to PM Modi, Devendra Fadnavis Expected to Take Charge

Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde has announced that the decision regarding Maharashtra’s next Chief Minister will be left to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP leadership. This has cleared the way for Devendra Fadnavis, with indications suggesting that he is the frontrunner for the role.

Shinde Says Shiv Sena Will Back PM’s Decision

In a press conference held on Wednesday in Thane, Shinde made it clear that he would not stand in the way of the BJP’s decision regarding the leadership in Maharashtra. “I have told PM Modi that I will not be an obstacle. Whatever decision he makes, we will accept,” said Shinde.

Sources close to the developments have hinted that Devendra Fadnavis is likely to be appointed as the next Chief Minister, with the possibility of two Deputy Chief Ministers representing the key partners in the ruling Mahayuti alliance.

Mahayuti Leaders Set to Meet BJP High Command

Following the major win of the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance, which secured 230 seats in the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly, a meeting has been scheduled with BJP leadership in Delhi to resolve the leadership question. Despite the alliance’s overwhelming victory, uncertainty over the Chief Minister’s post has lingered.

Shinde further emphasized that he had spoken to PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, assuring them of his full support in forming the new government. “Shiv Sena will support whatever decision the BJP high command takes. You (PM Modi) are the head of our family, and we will accept your decision as the people of BJP do,” Shinde added.

Fadnavis and the Deputy CM Formula

Though the BJP is expected to occupy the Chief Minister’s post, the alliance with Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is set to see the allocation of two Deputy Chief Minister positions. Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule thanked Shinde for his role in clearing up doubts and working towards strengthening the alliance.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Shirsat voiced his opinion, stating that Eknath Shinde deserved the Chief Minister’s post, as the elections were fought under his leadership. “He should return as the Chief Minister,” Shirsat insisted.

As the final decision on the leadership is set to unfold, the political dynamics of Maharashtra continue to capture attention.
