ED Uncovers Links Between Sudhakar Shetty and Congress Leaders in Iqbal Mirchi Money Laundering Case

In a significant development, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has uncovered crucial documents linking Sahana Group chairman Sudhakar Shetty to several political leaders, including members of the Congress, in connection with the Iqbal Mirchi money laundering case. The revelations came during a raid on Shetty’s residence and office, where ED officials found evidence of financial transactions involving politicians, including a former Haryana minister and ex-ministers from Maharashtra Congress.

According to the ED’s findings, Shetty allegedly spent several crores on the wedding of a relative of a former Haryana chief minister. Another major transaction under investigation involves a land deal between Shetty and a senior politician in Mumbai’s Juhu area.

Officials also discovered that Shetty provided his helicopters for free to certain political leaders, reportedly in exchange for financial favors. Despite multiple rounds of questioning, Shetty’s responses have been unsatisfactory, prompting ED officials to summon him again for further interrogation.

The raid, conducted on January 30, 2020, led to the seizure of bank account statements, company documents, pen drives, and computer hard disks. Investigators also uncovered details of over 20 shell companies allegedly linked to the underworld.

This investigation is connected to a broader probe into money laundering involving Dewan Housing Finance Ltd (DHFL) and its former chairman Kapil Wadhawan. The ED had arrested Wadhawan on January 27, 2020, over a ₹2,186 crore loan granted to Sunblink Real Estate, a company linked to Iqbal Mirchi.

Iqbal Mirchi, a known underworld figure, passed away on August 14, 2013, in London. However, his financial network continues to be under scrutiny as authorities unravel layers of alleged corruption, money laundering, and political ties.
