Diljit Dosanjh Breaks Silence on Hania Aamir’s Casting in Sardaar Ji 3: “Producers Have Invested Heavily”

New Delhi:
Amid mounting backlash over the casting of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in the upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3, singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has finally addressed the controversy. The trailer, released on Sunday, drew sharp reactions online, especially in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack in April 2025, which escalated tensions between India and Pakistan. As a result, film bodies in India have called for a ban on the film’s domestic release.

Speaking to the BBC Asian Network, Diljit, who is also one of the producers of the film, clarified that Sardaar Ji 3 was shot earlier this year when the political climate between the two countries was stable.

“We shot this film in February, and at that time, the situation between India and Pakistan was normal,” said Diljit. “Later, things changed beyond our control. Following the Pahalgam attack, it was decided that the film won’t release in India and will instead get an overseas release. Producers have invested a significant amount of money, and when the film was made, there was no such issue.”

Acknowledging the financial setback, he added, “Everyone involved knows that excluding the Indian market means a huge loss. But now the circumstances are not in our hands. I support the producers’ decision to go ahead with an international release.”

On his experience working with Hania Aamir, Diljit shared, “She’s a thorough professional. I truly respect her work and her privacy. I’m also someone who values personal space, especially when working with women. Our conversations were always to the point and professional.”

Despite the online furor, Sardaar Ji 3 will proceed with its global release as initially planned, while its Indian screening remains suspended due to current diplomatic sensitivities.
