Delhi to Celebrate International Yoga Day at 11 Major Venues, 20,000 Expected to Participate

New Delhi:
In a significant push to promote wellness through yoga, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that the city will celebrate International Yoga Day at 11 designated locations across the capital. The events, organised by the Delhi government, are expected to draw around 20,000 participants.
This marks the first large-scale, official observance of Yoga Day by the state government, according to the Chief Minister, who also criticized the previous administration for neglecting the celebration and politicising yoga. “The earlier government saw yoga through a political lens and never made official efforts. We’re changing that,” she said.
Highlighting the cultural significance of the event, Gupta also unveiled a special yoga anthem for Delhi composed by acclaimed musician Amit Trivedi.
The Chief Minister stated she will personally take part in the festivities by performing yoga on the banks of the Yamuna River. “Tomorrow will be celebrated like a festival in many parts of Delhi,” she added, underlining the scale and spirit of this year’s events.
Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts in making Yoga Day a global celebration, Gupta said, “PM Modi helped elevate yoga to the international stage, and today the world is embracing it with warmth.”
Ahead of the June 21 celebration, the Chief Minister addressed a Yoga, Meditation, and Medical Camp in Shalimar Bagh, reiterating the role of good health in national prosperity. “India can only move forward if its citizens stay healthy,” she emphasized.
This year’s International Day of Yoga, the 11th edition since its inception, is themed “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” and will see a variety of events nationwide to promote the practice and its benefits.
