Delhi Feels the Heat: City Sizzles at 38.2°C as Heatwave Looms Ahead

Delhi residents are beginning to feel the sting of summer, with the city recording a sweltering 38.2 degrees Celsius on Sunday—over 3 degrees above the seasonal average, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The scorching temperature is just the beginning, as a heatwave is likely to persist over the next two days.

While the maximum temperature soared, the morning offered slight relief with a minimum of 18.5 degrees Celsius, which was 1.5 degrees below the usual for this time of year. Humidity levels fluctuated between 43% and 27%, adding to the discomfort.

The IMD has predicted clear skies and intensified heatwave conditions for Monday, with temperatures expected to climb to 41°C during the day and settle at around 21°C at night. Over the next six days, Delhi is likely to experience consistently high temperatures ranging between 39°C and 42°C.

Adding to the city’s weather woes is the deteriorating air quality. The Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 209 at 4 pm on Sunday, placing it in the ‘poor’ category, as per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). With rising temperatures and stagnant air, the risk of worsening pollution levels remains high.

As the capital braces for a hot spell, residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid direct exposure to the sun during peak hours, and take precautions against heat-related health issues.
