Cocaine Worth ₹40 Crore Found Hidden in Comic Books at Bengaluru Airport

In a dramatic drug bust at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport, officials from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized over 4 kilograms of cocaine ingeniously concealed within superhero comic books. The seized contraband is estimated to be worth around ₹40 crore in the international market.

The incident occurred on July 18 when DRI officers from the Bengaluru Zonal Unit intercepted an Indian male passenger arriving from Doha in the early hours. During routine baggage screening, officers noticed that two comic magazines in the passenger’s luggage felt unusually heavy. Upon closer inspection, they discovered white powder packed inside the covers of the comics.

Subsequent testing confirmed the substance was cocaine, with a total weight of 4,006 grams.

The passenger was immediately arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Following his arrest, he was produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.

This seizure underscores the increasingly creative methods used by international drug traffickers, and the vigilance of Indian enforcement agencies at major airport.
