CID Officer Booked for Harassment After Bengaluru Businesswoman’s Tragic Suicide

In a deeply troubling case, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy. SP) in Bengaluru has been charged under the Prevention of Corruption Act and abetment to suicide following the death of a 35-year-old businesswoman, Jeeva S. The FIR was filed by Banashankari police hours after Jeeva died by suicide, allegedly due to harassment by CID officials.

Allegations of Harassment

According to a complaint filed by Jeeva’s sister, Sangeetha S., the officer, identified as Kanakalakshmi, summoned Jeeva for an in-person appearance on November 14 in connection with an alleged scam involving the Karnataka Bhovi Development Corporation. This was reportedly in violation of a High Court directive, which had mandated that the investigation be conducted via video conferencing.

Sangeetha further alleged that Kanakalakshmi forced Jeeva to disrobe under the pretext of checking if she was carrying cyanide, an incident that deeply traumatized her sister.

Investigation Underway

The incident has raised serious concerns about the conduct of law enforcement officials. The Banashankari police are now investigating the allegations, and the case has drawn attention to the need for accountability and humane treatment during official investigations.

This tragic incident has sparked outrage and calls for reforms to ensure such abuses of power are prevented in the future.
