Chinese Woman Defrauds Loved Ones of Millions, Lavishes Wealth on Lover While Husband Struggles in Debt
A woman from China’s Gansu province has been exposed for orchestrating a shocking $3.3 million fraud, deceiving friends and family to fund a lavish lifestyle for her secret lover—all while her husband lived frugally to pay off debts.
According to the South China Morning Post, Wang Wei, a woman in her early 30s, carried out an elaborate scheme to fraudulently sell apartments she did not own. She changed the locks on 80 properties, using forged documents to convince locksmiths to grant her access. Over five years, she swindled 24 million yuan (US$3.3 million) from 24 victims, including her own aunt, her husband’s sister, and close friends.
A Husband’s Sacrifice, A Wife’s Deception
Wang married her husband, Cheng, in 2017. Their relationship was financially strained from the start due to her extravagant spending habits, leading to mounting credit card debt. To help the couple, Cheng’s father took out a loan of 450,000 yuan (US$62,000) using his home as collateral.
Determined to repay his father, Cheng adopted a frugal lifestyle, cutting down expenses while working tirelessly to settle their debts. Little did he know that his wife had secretly been orchestrating a fraudulent scheme since 2019.
A Well-Planned Scam
Wang discovered that a local company was planning to allocate a new batch of relocation apartments. Using Photoshop, she forged property certificates and floor plans to make it appear as though she owned these homes. She then convinced locksmiths to change the locks on the 80 flats, ensuring she remained undetected by avoiding surveillance cameras.
“She always carried official-looking documents that seemed to prove her ownership, so I never had any reason to doubt her,” one locksmith recounted.
To avoid suspicion, Wang hired multiple locksmiths, each replacing locks on different properties. Once she gained control of the apartments, she sold them fraudulently, accumulating a fortune that she spent on a live-streamer, showering him with luxurious gifts, including properties and expensive items.

For years, her deception went unnoticed—until the fraud was finally exposed. The revelation has shocked the community, leaving her victims in financial distress and her husband devastated by her betrayal.
