Chain Singh Ends Medal Drought with Bronze at ISSF World Cup, Manu and Simranpreet Shine in Qualifiers

Indian shooter Chain Singh brought smiles back to the Indian camp by clinching a bronze medal in the men’s 50m rifle 3-positions event at the ISSF World Cup in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This marks India’s first medal of the tournament and Chain’s first ISSF podium finish in three years.

The Asian Games medallist scored 443.7 points to secure third place, while Hungary’s Istvan Peni claimed gold with a score of 461.0—his seventh ISSF gold. China’s Tian Jiaming bagged silver with 458.8 points.

Chain had qualified for the final alongside fellow Indians Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Niraj Kumar. Aishwary qualified second, just ahead of Chain in third, both tallying 589 points in qualification. However, Chain slipped to third on countback. Niraj Kumar also impressed, qualifying fifth with 587.

In the final, Niraj had a strong start and was second after the ‘Kneeling’ round but eventually dropped down. Meanwhile, Chain and Tomar, who were placed fifth and sixth early on, clawed their way up during the ‘Prone’ section. Chain held his nerve in the decisive ‘Standing’ round to secure a podium finish. Tomar narrowly missed out after a costly 7.8 on his 41st shot.

In other events, Olympian Manu Bhaker made a confident start in the women’s 25m pistol event, scoring 291/300 in the ‘Precision’ round to place fourth. Simranpreet Kaur Brar also impressed, shooting 290 to take sixth position. Esha Singh ended the round in 12th place with a 285.

In skeet shooting, Olympian Raiza Dhillon shot a solid 71 after three rounds, just two points off the lead, keeping her in the race at seventh position.

It was a day of grit, comebacks, and promise for Indian shooting—highlighted by Chain Singh’s much-celebrated return to form on the global stage.
