Ceasefire on Edge: PM Modi Warns Pakistan as Operation Sindoor Puts Terror on Notice

New Delhi – In his first address to the nation since last week’s eruption of hostilities with Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a stern message on Monday: India has only paused its military operations—not ended them.

Referring to Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the brutal Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 innocent lives on April 25, PM Modi said the operation was not merely symbolic. “The world has witnessed how India turned its resolve into action,” he stated, adding that over 100 terrorists were eliminated in targeted strikes across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Calling the Pahalgam attack the “most barbaric face of terrorism,” the Prime Minister declared that the perpetrators now understand the consequences of attacking Indian civilians. “The enemy has realized what it means to remove the sindoor from the forehead of our women,” he said, invoking the emotional and cultural symbolism of the attack.

Operation Sindoor, launched overnight between May 7 and 8, significantly raised tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours, sparking a series of military strikes and counter-strikes. By Saturday, both sides agreed to a ceasefire effective from 5 PM. However, Pakistan reportedly violated the truce within hours, further straining diplomatic efforts.

“Future decisions will depend on Pakistan’s conduct,” PM Modi warned, emphasizing that India remains vigilant and prepared to act if provoked again.

The situation remains tense, with the ceasefire hanging by a thread and the international community closely watching the next moves from both sides.
