CBSE to Hold Class 10 Board Exams Twice a Year Starting 2026: First Phase in Feb-Mar, Second in May

New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is set to introduce biannual board exams for Class 10 from the 2026 academic year. According to an official release, the first exam session will be held from February 17 to March 6, while the second will take place from May 5 to May 20.
The decision, approved in draft form, will now be open for public feedback until March 9, after which the final policy will be announced.
Key Highlights of the Proposed Scheme:
Biannual Exams: Students will have the option to appear in two board exams within the same academic year.
Exam Dates: Class 10 and 12 exams will begin on the first Tuesday after February 15 each year.
Expected Candidates: Around 26.60 lakh students for Class 10 and 20 lakh students for Class 12 in 2026.
Full Syllabus: Both exams will cover the entire syllabus and textbooks.
Grouping of Subjects:
Core subjects (Science, Maths, Social Science, Hindi, English) will be conducted on fixed days as per the current pattern.
Regional and foreign languages will be tested on a single day.
Other optional subjects will be offered two to three times, allowing students to choose their preferred exam dates.
CBSE aims to reduce stress and give students multiple opportunities to improve their scores. With public feedback still open, further refinements may be made before final implementation.
