Cancer-Stricken Elderly Woman Allegedly Abandoned in Garbage by Grandson in Mumbai

Mumbai:
In a deeply disturbing incident, a 60-year-old cancer patient, identified as Yashoda Gaikwad, was found lying atop a heap of garbage in Mumbai’s Aarey Colony. She alleges that she was abandoned there by her own grandson.
The case surfaced on Saturday morning when Mumbai Police discovered the woman in a severely weakened condition near a roadside garbage dump. Despite being found early in the day, it wasn’t until 5:30 PM that she was finally admitted to Cooper Hospital, as multiple hospitals reportedly refused her admission due to her health condition.
Ms. Gaikwad, who is suffering from skin cancer, told police that her grandson had deliberately left her there. The motive behind this alleged act of abandonment remains unclear.
The woman provided the authorities with two possible addresses of her family—one in Malad and another in Kandivali. The police are currently investigating these leads and have circulated her photograph across city police stations to help locate her family members.
Authorities have launched a full inquiry into the incident and are attempting to verify the woman’s claims and track down her relatives.
This incident has raised serious concerns about elder neglect and abuse, prompting calls for stronger safeguards for senior citizens in vulnerable conditions.
