‘Breaking Bad’ in Rajasthan: Two Teachers Caught Manufacturing ₹15 Crore Worth of Drugs

In a real-life crime echoing the plot of the hit TV show Breaking Bad, two educators from Rajasthan have been arrested for operating an illegal drug lab and producing Mephedrone (also known as MD), a synthetic stimulant worth ₹15 crore, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) said.

The arrested individuals have been identified as 25-year-old Manoj Bhargav, a science teacher at Government Senior Secondary School in Muklawa (Gangasagar district), and Indrajeet Vishnoi, a former physics teacher at a private coaching centre and a Rajasthan Administrative Services aspirant.

According to Ghanshyam Soni, NCB Director (Jodhpur Zonal Unit), the duo had been running the drug lab from a rented flat in Dream Homes Apartment, Riddhi-Siddhi Enclave, in Sri Ganganagar for the past two-and-a-half months. They sourced the required chemicals and lab equipment from Delhi and would take leaves from their teaching duties to focus on manufacturing the drug.

Within this short time, they managed to produce approximately five kilograms of Mephedrone, of which 4.22 kg had already been sold. The total market value of the drug produced was pegged at ₹15 crore. During a recent raid, 780 grams of Mephedrone and modern laboratory equipment were recovered from the flat — worth ₹2.34 crore alone.

Authorities also seized various precursor chemicals including acetone, benzene, sodium hydrogen carbonate, bromine, methylamine, isopropyl alcohol, 4-methyl propiophenone, and n-methyl-2-pyrrolidone — all essential in the production of synthetic drugs.

The NCB has termed this one of the most significant drug busts in Rajasthan and is now investigating the supply chain, buyers, and potential involvement of other individuals in the illicit operation.
