Brazen Hospital Killing in Bihar: 5 Gunmen Kill Gangster, Flaunt Weapons While Fleeing

In a chilling display of lawlessness, five armed men stormed into a hospital in Patna, Bihar, on Thursday and shot dead a notorious gangster, Chandan Mishra, before fleeing the scene on motorcycles — one of them boldly waving a gun in the air in an apparent gesture of triumph. The entire incident was caught on CCTV, capturing the attackers casually entering Paras Hospital, executing the murder, and then escaping without resistance.
Chandan Mishra, who was facing 24 criminal cases including over a dozen murders, had been granted parole for medical reasons and was being treated at the hospital. He succumbed to his injuries shortly after the attack.
The police suspect the murder was orchestrated by a rival gang. One of the assailants, identified as Tauseef Badshah from Phulwari Sharif in Patna, has been detained. Tauseef’s father owns a hardware shop and his mother is a teacher, police said. Authorities have identified the remaining suspects and are conducting raids to locate them.
Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikay Sharma said, “Chandan Mishra, a resident of Buxar with multiple murder charges, had been transferred to Bhagalpur jail and was on parole at Paras Hospital. The rival gang, likely the Chandan Sheru gang, executed the attack. With the help of Buxar police, we are identifying and tracking down the perpetrators.”
This incident has intensified the debate around the deteriorating law and order situation in Bihar, especially ahead of upcoming elections. Recent weeks have seen multiple high-profile murders, including those of businessman Gopal Khemka, BJP leader Surendra Kewat, and lawyer Jitendra Mahato.
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav slammed the government, asking, “If criminals can shoot someone inside an ICU, is anyone really safe in Bihar? Was this even possible before 2005?”
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha responded, promising swift action: “This is an unfortunate incident. A thorough investigation will take place, and those responsible will not be spared. The Chief Minister has assured that strict action will be taken.”
