‘BJP Failed in Their Only Responsibility’: Arvind Kejriwal Slams Centre Over Twin Delhi Murders

New Delhi: AAP leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal strongly criticized the BJP-led central government on Saturday, holding it responsible for the deteriorating law-and-order situation in the national capital. Referring to two shocking murder incidents in Delhi, Kejriwal accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of failing to ensure citizens’ safety.
“The people gave one responsibility to the BJP’s central government—law and order—and they have failed miserably. Today, Delhi’s condition has worsened,” Kejriwal said. “Where is Amit Shah? The responsibility of maintaining law and order lies directly with him, but he does not seem to care.”
Kejriwal’s remarks came after two separate murders shook Delhi. In one incident, a 52-year-old utensil trader was shot dead in broad daylight while out for a morning walk in Vishwas Nagar, Shahdara. Two motorcycle-borne assailants fired eight rounds at the trader on a busy road before fleeing the scene.
Raising concerns over rising crime, Kejriwal said, “How have criminals become so bold that they are firing openly on the streets? In the last 1.5 months, gang wars, shootouts, and ransom threats have become common in Delhi. Traders are receiving extortion calls threatening their families.”
In another tragic case, a family of three—a man, his wife, and their daughter—was stabbed to death in their home in Neb Sarai earlier this week. The police later revealed that the couple’s son confessed to committing the crime, though he initially claimed he was out for a morning walk at the time.
Kejriwal, while acknowledging AAP’s work on schools, hospitals, and electricity, urged the Centre to prioritize safety. “I appeal with folded hands—stop playing dirty politics and take concrete steps to secure the lives of Delhi’s people,” he added.
The twin incidents have reignited debates over Delhi’s law and order, which falls under the purview of the Union Home Ministry, even as the city’s administration is managed by the AAP government.
