Bihar PMCH Hostel Fire Uncovers Shocking NEET Scam Evidence

Cash Bundles, Admit Cards, and OMR Sheets Found Amid Fire Debris; Questions Mount Over ‘Cash-for-Admission’ Racket
PATNA: What started as a routine fire incident at the Chanakya Hostel of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) on Thursday has now unraveled a shocking scam linked to medical admissions. As firefighters extinguished the flames, a startling discovery was made—piles of cash, NEET-PG admit cards, OMR sheets of MBBS exams, liquor bottles, and partially burnt bundles of ₹500 notes, totaling an estimated ₹10-12 lakh.
The room where these items were found reportedly belonged to Ajay Singh, a 2022 postgraduate passout and resident of Samastipur, Bihar. Despite graduating, Singh allegedly retained two hostel rooms, which are now suspected to have been used for a ‘cash-for-admission’ racket involving MBBS and PG admissions.
This revelation comes as the state grapples with the aftermath of the 2024 NEET exam paper leak, adding another layer to the ongoing scandal. The incident has sparked fresh controversy, with opposition parties, including RJD, alleging the involvement of PMCH officials, government authorities, and even ministers in the scam.
PMCH authorities have assured a thorough investigation into the matter, but many are questioning how such illegal activities could have been conducted within the institution’s premises.
Last year, Bihar faced a similar scandal with the NEET-UG paper leak, leading to massive protests and a CBI investigation. As the probe into this latest discovery unfolds, the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government, which includes BJP as an ally, is under mounting pressure to address the growing concerns about corruption and malpractice in the state’s education system.
