Bhopal Shock: 52 kg Gold and ₹10 Crore Cash Found in Abandoned Car in Jungle

In a dramatic turn of events, authorities in Bhopal seized 52 kilograms of gold biscuits worth ₹40 crore and ₹10 crore in cash from an abandoned Innova car in the Mendori forest near the city’s outskirts. The discovery has sparked concerns over an alleged nexus involving politicians, government officials, and real estate entities.
Acting on a tip-off about gold being transported through forest routes, a massive operation involving 100 policemen and 30 police vehicles was conducted. The car, found in the secluded jungle area, contained two bags stuffed with gold and cash but no occupants were present. The vehicle reportedly belongs to Chetan Gaur, a Gwalior resident and associate of Saurabh Sharma, a former Regional Transport Office (RTO) constable currently under investigation.
This shocking seizure comes amid back-to-back raids by the Income Tax department and the Lokayukta Police across Bhopal. On Thursday, Lokayukta teams raided Mr. Sharma’s residence in the upscale Arera Colony, uncovering over ₹1 crore in cash, half a kilogram of gold and diamonds, silver bars, and property documents.
The recent raids also targeted prominent builders under scrutiny for their ties with influential politicians and bureaucrats. Among those investigated is Rajesh Sharma of Trishul Constructions, a well-known figure in Bhopal’s construction industry. Reports suggest that his connections with senior officials have helped secure significant contracts. During the raids, officials seized ₹3 crore in cash, gold jewellery, documents related to land acquisitions, and uncovered 10 bank lockers.
As investigations continue, the discovery has cast a spotlight on suspected illicit dealings involving powerful individuals in real estate, politics, and bureaucracy. Authorities are now working to trace the origins of the massive haul of gold and cash while further unraveling the network behind it.
