BCCI Gets Clear Message On Jasprit Bumrah’s Role In Crucial 4th Test vs England

Former India head coach Anil Kumble has stressed the critical need for Jasprit Bumrah to be part of India’s playing XI in the remaining two Tests against England. With the series still in the balance, Kumble urged the team management not to rest the ace pacer, especially ahead of the pivotal fourth Test at Old Trafford.
Before the series began, chief selector Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir had revealed that Bumrah would be rotated and play only three of the five Tests as part of workload management. So far, Bumrah featured in the matches at Headingley and Lord’s but was rested for the Edgbaston Test. However, with a week’s break before the fourth Test, there’s a strong possibility that he could return to the XI.
Kumble, speaking to JioHostar, made a strong case for Bumrah’s inclusion:
“I would certainly push for Bumrah to play the next game because that’s crucial. If he doesn’t play and India lose, the series is gone. Yes, he was initially supposed to play only three Tests, but there’s a long break afterward. He can rest during the home series if needed. Right now, he should play the next two.”
Bumrah has been in top form, picking up 12 wickets in just four innings, placing him second in the series wicket-takers list behind Mohammed Siraj.
India had a minor injury scare during Thursday’s training session when pacer Arshdeep Singh sustained a cut on his bowling hand while fielding. He was later seen with a bandage on.
India will look to level the series in the fourth Test starting July 23 at Old Trafford, Manchester, before the fifth and final Test kicks off at The Oval in London on July 31.
