Bangladesh Cricket Board Raises Concern Over Government Probe, Warns of Possible ICC Trouble

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has expressed serious concern over the Bangladesh government’s decision to investigate the board’s October 2025 election, warning that the move could create uncertainty around the stability and independence of the country’s cricket administration.

In a statement released on Monday, the BCB said the issue arose after a gazette notification from the National Sports Council announced the formation of a committee to examine the election process.

The board emphasised that the current leadership is a “duly elected and fully operational body”, functioning according to its constitution and governance rules. Since taking office, the administration said it has continued working in the best interests of cricket in Bangladesh.

However, the BCB warned that the investigation could raise questions about the board’s independence — something that could attract attention from the global governing body of cricket, the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The board noted that under ICC regulations, any perceived government interference in the functioning of a national cricket board could trigger governance concerns and even disciplinary action.

According to the BCB, the matter has already been informally discussed with senior ICC officials, who indicated that developments suggesting outside interference in a democratically elected cricket body might raise issues under international cricket governance rules.

Despite these concerns, the board said it prefers to first engage directly with the National Sports Council to understand the purpose, context and possible consequences of the investigation before taking any formal steps with the ICC.

Reaffirming its commitment to dialogue, the BCB stressed that protecting the autonomy and stability of the elected administration is essential for maintaining internationally recognised governance standards in cricket.

The board also urged authorities to resolve the matter in a way that protects the independence of Bangladesh cricket and preserves the country’s reputation within the global cricket community.
