Audi, Fortuner, Thar Among 57 Stolen Vehicles Found in Arunachal Pradesh in Record Recovery

In a major crackdown on inter-state vehicle theft, police in Arunachal Pradesh’s capital Itanagar have recovered 57 luxury and high-end vehicles, including models like Audi, Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra Thar, and Ford Endeavour. The stolen vehicles, valued at over ₹30 crore, were linked to multiple theft cases across Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and other states.

Police also arrested five prime suspects involved in the racket. Officials said this is the largest single recovery of stolen vehicles by any police station in India so far.

The operation began on July 2 and led to the seizure of the vehicles from various parts of the Itanagar Capital Region. According to senior police officer Jummar Basar, the gang targeted high-value cars from the Delhi-NCR region and nearby states. After stealing the vehicles, they worked with brokers to tamper with engine and chassis numbers, forge registration documents, and smuggle the cars into Arunachal Pradesh.

Preliminary investigations suggest the possibility of international links to the vehicle theft ring. Authorities are now probing digital financial trails and patterns in cross-border movements that hint at foreign involvement in the racket.

Police have urged the public to exercise caution when purchasing used vehicles and to always verify ownership and registration details with appropriate authorities to avoid falling victim to fraud.
