Assam Allows 24×7 Business Operations in Key Cities, Boosting Jobs and Economy

Dibrugarh: In a significant move to boost business and employment opportunities, the Assam government has decided to allow shops and business establishments in Guwahati, Dibrugarh, and Silchar to operate 24 hours a day, except for liquor outlets, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Thursday.

Speaking at a press conference after a cabinet meeting, CM Sarma said that in other towns, shops will be allowed to stay open until 2 AM, while in rural areas, the closing time will be 11 PM. However, to ensure fair working conditions, employees will have a maximum nine-hour shift, requiring businesses to implement a three-shift system for round-the-clock operations.

“This policy will benefit small businesses, create new job opportunities, and contribute to economic growth,” the Chief Minister emphasized.

Other Key Decisions by the Assam Cabinet:

Moran Community Residency Certificates: Assam will grant permanent residency certificates (PRC) to Moran community members residing in Arunachal Pradesh, as the Arunachal government currently does not provide them.

Infrastructure Development: The state has approved ₹262 crore for the construction of roads in tea garden areas.

Honoring Assam’s Political History: The government will celebrate the birth centenary of former CM Golap Borbora, Assam’s first non-Congress Chief Minister.

Job Opportunities in Health Sector: The age limit for National Health Mission (NHM) employees applying for permanent jobs in the Health Department has been removed.

Education Reforms: The government will introduce the post of headmaster in elementary schools with 50 or more students to strengthen the education system.

These decisions aim to enhance economic growth, improve infrastructure, and create more opportunities for the people of Assam.
