Air Ambulance With 7 On Board Crashes in Jharkhand While En Route to Delhi

New Delhi: An air ambulance carrying seven people crashed in Jharkhand’s Chatra district on Sunday evening, according to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

The aircraft — a Beechcraft C90 operated by Redbird Airways Pvt Ltd — had taken off from Ranchi at 7:11 pm and was headed to Delhi.

Lost Contact Mid-Air

As per the DGCA, the aircraft established contact with Kolkata Air Traffic Control before losing communication and radar contact at approximately 7:34 pm, around 100 nautical miles southeast of Varanasi.

The aircraft’s tail number was VT-AJV.

Who Was On Board?

The passenger manifest included:

  • Two pilots
  • One patient
  • Two attendants
  • One doctor
  • One paramedic

The patient, a 41-year-old man, had reportedly suffered 63 per cent burn injuries and was being airlifted from Ranchi to Delhi for advanced treatment in a specialised medical facility.

Rescue and Investigation Underway

Local district administration teams have reached the crash site and initiated search and rescue operations. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is dispatching a team to probe the cause of the crash.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the region, particularly given the critical medical condition of the patient being transported for life-saving care.
