After 30 Years on the Run, Khalistani Fugitive Mangat Singh Finally Caught in Punjab

Noida:
In a major breakthrough, authorities have finally apprehended Mangat Singh, a Khalistani extremist who had been evading arrest for nearly three decades. Singh, wanted in multiple cases including attempt to murder and arms-related charges under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA), was arrested from a village in Amritsar, Punjab, on Wednesday.

The arrest was made possible through a joint operation by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and officials from Sahibabad police station. Singh carried a bounty of ₹25,000 on his head and had been absconding since 1995, when he was granted bail after his initial arrest in 1993.

Singh was also implicated in a separate case involving robbery and extortion. Adding to his background, his brother Sangat Singh was the head of the now-banned Khalistan Commando Force and was killed in a police encounter in 1990.

His arrest is being seen as a significant success in the ongoing efforts to track down and prosecute individuals associated with extremist movements in India.
