Dawood Ibrahim’s Ancestral Lands in Maharashtra Finally Sold After Years of No Takers

After years of hesitation and failed attempts, properties linked to one of India’s most notorious figures, Dawood Ibrahim, have finally found a buyer.
Four small land parcels located in Mumbake village in Ratnagiri—believed to be part of his ancestral roots—were successfully auctioned by the central government earlier this month. The sale marks a significant breakthrough after multiple unsuccessful attempts since 2017.
For years, these properties struggled to attract buyers. Their association with Dawood and the infamous D-Company kept most people away. Add to that their remote location and limited use for agriculture, and the land remained untouched despite repeated auctions—even after price cuts.
This time, however, things changed.
A bidder from Mumbai stepped forward and secured all four plots. One of the parcels alone fetched over ₹10 lakh—more than the combined value of the remaining three. The auction was conducted under the SAFEMA Act, which deals with properties linked to smuggling and illegal financial activities.
The land parcels were once part of the Kaskar family’s holdings and had been seized by authorities decades ago before being forfeited to the government.
Interestingly, earlier attempts in 2017, 2020, 2024, and 2025 saw little to no participation. Even when prices were slashed, buyers stayed away—largely due to the stigma attached to the name.
The identity of the new buyer hasn’t been revealed yet, and the deal will be finalized once the payment is completed and approved by authorities.
For many, this sale is more than just a property transaction—it’s a quiet closing of a chapter tied to a dark past.
Dawood Ibrahim, the mastermind behind the 1993 1993 Bombay bombings, remains one of India’s most wanted fugitives. While India has long maintained that he is hiding in Karachi, Pakistan has consistently denied his presence.
Even so, the sale of these lands back home signals that, piece by piece, remnants of his past in India are being dismantled.
