Fuel Prices Hold Steady in India Despite Global Oil Surge Amid Middle East Tensions

Even as global oil prices continue to rise due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East, fuel prices across India have remained largely unchanged on March 19, offering some relief to consumers.

International crude oil rates have surged sharply, with Brent crude crossing $108 per barrel—an increase of over 5% in recent days. Since the conflict began, prices have reportedly jumped nearly 50%, raising concerns about the cost of fuel and essential goods worldwide.

However, despite this global pressure, petrol and diesel rates in major Indian cities have stayed stable for now.

⛽ Fuel Prices in Major Cities (March 19)

  • Delhi: Petrol ₹94.77 | Diesel ₹87.67
  • Noida: ₹94.74 | ₹87.81
  • Kolkata: ₹105.45 | ₹92.02
  • Mumbai: ₹103.54 | ₹90.03
  • Chennai: ₹100.80 | ₹92.39
  • Bengaluru: ₹102.99 | ₹91.06
  • Hyderabad: ₹107.50 | ₹95.70
  • Patna: ₹105.54 | ₹91.78
  • Gurgaon: ₹95.85 | ₹88.30
  • Lucknow: ₹94.84 | ₹87.98

The variation in fuel prices across cities is mainly due to differences in local taxes and transportation costs.

At the national level, the average retail price stands at ₹94.77 per litre for petrol and ₹87.67 per litre for diesel. Meanwhile, compressed natural gas (CNG), supplied by Indraprastha Gas Limited, is priced at ₹77.09 per kg.

While prices have not yet increased domestically, experts warn that continued instability in global oil markets could eventually impact Indian fuel rates. For now, consumers are seeing a rare moment of stability despite rising global uncertainty.
